A Rainy Day비 오는 날
A Rainy Day captures a boy who has run out into the rain, with little raindrop friends romping at his feet. With the hood of his yellow raincoat pulled low, the boy tips his head back and opens both palms wide, taking the falling rain with his whole body. His face, laughing through a gap where his front teeth used to be, is full of rosy cheeks and mischief.
At his feet are three raindrop sprites in pointed hats. The blue sprite runs as if dancing under the shade of a white flower, holding a yellow umbrella; the orange one has tumbled flat on its back and bursts out laughing; the purple one looks up at the sky as if yawning. Like raindrops rolling in every puddle, each goes its own merry way.
A yellow raincoat and boots, rolled-up dungarees, the crumpled folds of dakjongi clothing. The thrill of childhood days when we dashed outside in the rain is captured throughout the work.
As grown-ups, we hurry to open our umbrellas when it rains, but to a child, rain was not something to avoid — it was a friend to play with. The work calls back the laughter of the days when we folded our umbrellas and welcomed the rain with our whole bodies.

When was the last time you laughed in the rain without an umbrella?
In the boy's open palms and tipped-back head, feel a heart that welcomes the rain.
Look inside the boy's laughing mouth for his missing front teeth — the face of the most mischievous age.
One with an umbrella under the flower's shade, one tumbled over, one gazing at the sky. Look at their faces one by one.
The yellow umbrella beneath the white flower also looks like the one the boy folded up and left behind.
Recall the days you splashed through puddles in your boots, and walked home soaking wet.
A bouncy swing-folk song, like splashing through puddles, about a boy who folds his umbrella to welcome the rain, and his raindrop friends.
When I was a child, rainy days were always exciting. No matter how often Mum called me, I would put on my raincoat and boots, run outside, and splash through every puddle.
At the boy's feet I made little raindrop friends as well. To a child's eyes, every falling raindrop must have looked like a friend come to play. One hides in the flower's shade, one falls over laughing, and one waits for the next shower.
Now that I'm grown, the first thing I look for when it rains is an umbrella. In my hurry not to get wet, I tend to forget the days when the sound of rain sounded like a song.
In front of this work, I hope you will fold your umbrella for a moment and open your palms. The raindrops of that day may still be waiting for you.
